Weekend;Film-Movie-Dvd....

A Dutch (dvd) movie "Zwartboek"by Paul Verhoeven,
....about some Jews& Germans in the war.
(also to watch with english undertitles)

I liked it that this movie was filmed in The hague/Holland witch is my Birthtown.

I do not often watch dvd's but this one I watched because I red on the blog of Rebecca (may 13th-2007) that she liked this movie, so why not give it a try?

The story is playing around a Jewish woman named "Rachel" who tried to escape with her family and other rich-jews by boat. All people on the boat were killed , because of their money-jewelry exept for Rachel. She survived, escaped and changed her name later into a Dutch woman-name: "Ellis de Vries" while she was 'walking-over" to the germans to get the needed information to help her jewisch-people. An impressif story anyway.

My opinion about this movie is medium **stars.
-The acting was ' weak' slow, not very strong,
(perhaps also because it was in Dutch language?)
-The story was good and clear to follow, easy to follow by anybody, even without the knowledge of any war-history.
-A lot of poop,(urgh!)blood, but non violence,
(typical for Paul Verhoeven: dirty stuffs so better don't eat while watching his movies!)
-The filming-decor etc. was great & well done!

All together: we got a relaxing free evening, anyway without commercials for a change! I wonder how the book will be, because the book was first written before the movie came out.

Does anyone red the book ?
If so, what is your meaning about it?
