The birth of Flevoland.......

A Sunday car-trip with a story.............
What do you do on a Sunday when the weather is just soso? What we did first: We sat in the backyard , one wa working in the garden the other (me) was reading the newspaper, the dog was laying lazy... Not very well weather to play some tennis-games, so lets drive by car to Almere, not far from here. Almere is 'on the other site' of Amsterdam... About a half century ago ( until 1950), this.. was only water called a 'polder'......

Above: Now the Ijsselmeer with a skyline of Amsterdam in the background. (doubleclick on the photographs to enlarge)

Here is the true happened history of "The birth of a Dutch Provincie"
On the 1th of January 1986. This was the birthday of Flevoland, the 12th provincie of Holland.…How it started, where Flevoland is now there was water before, with here and there an island like: Wieringen. Marken. Schokland. Urk. They were dry land in between the wet (water). On that islands and also on the land one/they knew: The sea give and takes......If so ... the damage was not only on the sea.. also the land was... for ages the water/sea was the strongest.

Above: Now,the sailing-boats on the Ijsselmeer with on the back the skyline of Amsterdam.

How to controll the Zuiderzee? In the 17th century we turned the rules. Waterbouwkundigen started to 'look at this Zuiderzee . Hendric Stevin, waterbouwkundig ingenieur came with the ideakwam met het idee to controll the Zuiderzee . So he would like a dike from the head of the North of Holland to the wadden-islands unto the Groninger seadikes. And this was a revolutionair idea…

Under :now Almere is a big city, with several other cities like :Almere-Haven, Almere-City, Almere-Buiten and since short also Almeerderhout , a nice villa area....

Under: so after this nice historical drive to the "before-water city" we went for a drink to one of the villages we lived: Muiderberg, wich is very nearby Almere and Amsterdam.

Above left: here you can drink/eat near the harbor in Muiderberg village, right: the harbor of Muiderberg. (doubleclick on photographs to enlarge)
