Happy Sinterklaas!

Happy Sinterklaas!
*
A DUTCH tradition is "SINTERKLAAS",
*
SINTERKLAAS is overall more a party for the youngest children,
they still believe in the exsisting of SINTERKLAAS . YEP!
The story:
The Sinterklaas is a "hloy saint' and he is coming by BOAT from SPAIN and he is veeeeeeeerrry old over a miljoenhundred years or more...., YES you must believ that! (thats what we are telling the young children)Once a year he is celebrating his Birthday on the 5 th of December... The evening ( or weekend) before it is "presents-evening". Children are sitting on SINTERKLAAS his lap and singing songs for him, SINTERKLAAS is coming everywhere of course!!! On all the schools, in the supermarkets and at home... So you can imagine that SINTERKLAAS is a very busy man! Therefore he is having his very sweet helpers ,The black PIETEN,, the are giving the children all sweet candies (see photo's below)
*
*
*
For the adults:
Its a tradition that we suppose to give some-one else/family or at school , a present with a personal TEASING rymn, about that person's good or bad things of the past year, with a funny wrapped-in "SURPRISE" This 'surprise is mostly not expensive.... its the way , you wrap it in : for example , wrapped in yelly or something else 'strange you like" T thats the funniest part of all.... Its all for fun and laughing of course.
The "SINTERKLAAS and his helpers, the black "PIETEN" are travelling day and night over the roofs, to bring present(through the open wood fire places) to all the sweet children evrywhere, and all the children are getting sweet candies in their shoes.....
*
Above: The "Sint" and 2 of his "Pieten"
*
Below: The candies for SINTERKLAAS are:
Chocolate-letters and Marsepain fruits,

And NOT to forget,
All kinds of very tasty and Spiced speculaas and taaitaai ....
*
Below for the Dutch blogreaders...
*
Have a great week everyone!
Een goede week gewenst!

hi, I live near Lisbon and also have an appartment at Nazaré, the most beautiful beaches of Portugal and around...
there are living some dutch people all the time, and, also some others, have there their own flats where they use to come and pass winter time, as in tour country...well, it's always NIGHT! and too much cold, windy, freezing!
but I love Holland, in fact
At Alkmaar is living a daughter of mine her husband (dutch) and 2 little princesses of 2years and 6months old, most beautiful!!!
They will bring me alkmaar cheese,
I know everything there I go there twice a year at least and enjoy it quite a lot
have a nice christmas also with marzapien sweets and evrything you wish!
where are you from?
hugs

JOANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you're well and staying warm! Sorry I haven't dropped by lately--work work work work I am a busy bee (I do NOT sting people, however). First, you have a new design at the top of your page, don't you? It is AMAZING. Second, I am wondering how the display of your photos in the gallery went? Have you mentioned anything about that? I'll have to read back over your posts!

I would like some of those delicious little treats, please. Just a spoonful of sugar helps the horrible deadlines go down!

(Pssst: Here's a secret! I think I'm getting a dog soon. I'll post a picture if I do--perhaps my dog and Ios can be penpals--or would it be pawpals?)

Huge hugs,
Sparkle
:-)

My German friend Inge's son's name is Piet. This is a nice tradition. We don't do all these things throughout December in the U.S. I wish we did.

Nice to see your photo and commentary about tradition and Sinterklaas. Looks like he is close kin to our Santa Claus.

oh Myths are fun JoAnn, sometimes romantic too. Perhaps sinterklass is the ancestor of Santa claus ?
Happy sinterklass to childrenall over the world JoAnn

Hi

Hi JoAnn (Just realised the capital A....What an observer I am....).
Can you explain to my son what Kapoentje means (like in the song you mention)? I have been unable to find an Englidh / French translation for that word!!!!)

THANK YOU!!!

Well as you might all know "I am an adult" and therefore I do NOT believe in SINTERKLAAS's Exsisting.... No NO, so we/I do not really celebrate SINTERKLAAS at home, with the ryms etcetra, but we do EAT THE snacks as on the picture! so GMJ: I cannot show you the presents we wrapped nor got , SORRY!

THANK YOU all for your good SINTERKLAAS wishes and you memories are all great, esspecially from Catrine

And LEZARD the word KAPOENTJE in the RYMNSONG might probably mean the hat of the SINTERKLAAS, it also is a 'type of bird', I will look it up in the wipikedia, perhaps I find the meaning.

I Love eating SPECULAAS and TAAI TAAI, I bought a couple in reserve, because right after SINTERKLAAS, we cannot buy those treaths anymore...

THANK YOU all for your good SINTERKLAAS wishes and the memoreis fromCatrine (Antwerpen) and Gaivorta (Alkmaar) were also great to read. RAUF Thanks from ALL the children all over the world!

THANK YOU
