The answer is:
Its a "numbered" coat-hanging system!!
It works like this:
When you hang your coat on a specific numbered-place, you take the number with you to remember yourself -later- on which number you left your coat hanging... this way you can find your belongings back easier...Got it?On this picture : this hanging system is an origionall design seen inside the building of the "Beurs van Berlage" in Amsterdam, and designed by "Berlage".

This Numbered-Coat- system is now also used in several places such as restaurants, theaters , musea's as "a security system", this way the visiters can leave their coats/bags/embrella's or whatever....behind on the (mostly locked) place with -payed security-people. This numbered coat-hanging-system is nowadays also often used for example in regular schools , sportschools and other public buildings.
Thanks for your interest and answers/quesses last week!

The same system as used to prevail when you left your coat at the cloak room at the theatre or opera.
