IOS, 'name's -5'

IOS
Ios, is my lovely dog's (born in 1999) given birthname.
She's my angel, my hike-mate, my little hughbear, my lovely sweetheart, my always sweet and trustable little friend. Wow, do I love this little doggy.
Ios is also a very small 'Cycladen kind of', Greek island, with only 1400 habitants....We gave Ios (our dog) this name, because we (Bert and I) love the Country Greece, because of all the fantastic islands. Ios itself has no meaning but this says it all:
-the great sunny weather,
-the cristalclear blue sea,
-the lovely food, greek salads & cheese ,
-the greek yoghurt with honey ,
-the greek music ,
-the cosy town has all of it.
The island IOS has a speciality the' Myzithra' = a creamy kind of cheese . The coast has 400 different chappels (churches) ,the coast is having a rocky look. There are also many middle ages castels, and windmills.

Left:Ios "chora" Right:Ios White church
Ios Town, (chora) is a typical Cycladenplace with shinywhite houses, narrow streets and white churches.

Ios map
You can only go to IOS by boat, it has no airport ( Santorini has an airport) therefore IOS-island is too small. We went to lot's of Greek islands : Samos, Kreta, Rhodos, and more.... we always love to go back there Perhaps (just a sweet dream) we ever buy a house there or somewhere else in Greece? We love travelling & dreaming......Who knows....

Truus & Theo,'names-4'

"What's the meaning of their names ":
Theo and Truus.
But first: Who are they and how am I related with them?
Truus is my aunt, because she is the (much!) younger sister of my mom (Co) . T & T are both Dutch, and born in Holland. Theo emigrated to Canada in 1956 , he met Truus (later) , when he went back to Holland for a short time. ( I think it went that way...) So after a time they came together again, they married and they are still living in Canada. Their front-names 'changed' in Canada in: Ted and Trudy. Truus and I met each other in person a year ago , when she visited Holland with her daughter Yvonne, (januari-February 2006) . Before we were having a frequent email contact. Since we met in Holland (this was a great time!) we kept contact and I visited Truus later (september 2006) in Canada. I met her husband (my uncle ) Theo , and their fantastic spontanious children , grandchilden and their friends. I am still impressed, because we really like(d) & love each other. Truus and I have so much in comment, we could be sisters.
*
What did I find about the name Theo:
His full birthnames are Theodorus, Regnerus.
Theo, from Theodorus Td: means : 1) 'Present of God' (Dutch: Geschenk van God") 2) Also know as a holy name by, 'Theodorus Graptus', he was coming from Syrië , a munck at the religious house (Dutch:' monnik uit een klooster') in Mar Saba near Jerusalem/Israel. (His name Graptus (Greek form= graptos), ( Dutch:`beschrevene, getekende'). He got this name because he was a slafe and a refugee .( Dutch: een gevluchte slaaf), The slafe's face was mutilated by a colored arrow.(Dutch: Hij was met een in kleurstof gedrenkte pijl in het gezicht verminkt.) 3) Before the 17th century the latin form of Theodorus also was aholy name: "Feodor in Russia"4) In Holland the name Theodorus became in daily life after the 17th century : Derk or Derrick. Regnerus: I tried to find the meaning of this name, butI came no very far , I only could find 2 persons: 1) a Regnerus Praedinius: a teacher and writer, born in 1512 in Holland and 2) a church on Terschelling (island in Holland). So this is all for now.
*
I found the following about the name Truus:
Her birthnames are Geertruida, Berta.
Truus and also Trudie (Tristan): Means : "Mythologic Lover" ( Dutch: Mythologische minnaar ) from (keltisch) Truus or Trudie is a shorter name wich is coming from Geertruida .( Dutch: Verkorting Geertruida) (vgl. de vorm Gertrudis). In a Dutch town named 'Genemuiden' the name comes from 'Catharina'. Catharina comes from the Greek "cat- haros' , this means : Pure , clean (zuiver en rein). The Name Bertha; Comes from Adelbert, the meaning (Look also under blog publice: 'Albert-peter names-3') is shiny and coming from a 'nobelty family' ( of noble birth).
*
Well that's all about this front-names , Thanks!!!! to Yvonne, who gave me the birthnames of her parents. It was pleasant 'sport' for me, to find out the meaning the front-names of people I love. Of course there are always better 'meanings in a name' but this is how far I could get with the information I could find in Dutch namebooks.....

Albert Peter,'names 3'

(c) black and white portraits by jw-nl

My sweetest hubby & rock in my life's person name is: Bert. (53) He needs no intruduction , his given birthnames are :Albert-Peter.Well...I must say that the meaning of his names are very well "like Bert". He is as a rock for me since (more than) 20 years he's in my life, and he is 'as a rock' ,always stabile and always sweet and good-mooded, a trustable lifepartner....

Here the meaning of Bert's birthname Albert:
This comes from Adelbert: in short Bert, Albert, Appi.
Albert means: Adal (=Germaans) comes from Nobelty or 'a nobel birth' (Dutch: adel edel, erfgoed).Bert=(=Germaans) 'Shiny by nobelty' , some or 'a shiny' , a shining, sparkling person. or,' shiny as a sword' . (Dutch: glanzend, schitterend,Stralend, Of: " Door de adel schitterende")

His second name: Peter , Peer, means :'The rock' .(Dutch:"De rotsvaste")
Peter probably is coming from Petrus, but not sure , maybe more used by male names. In Holland only a known name in the Southwest (Fri.) also the female form: Petra, in use in Germany or also as an English name.

Agian is my my conclusion, that Bert's name is a very well choosen name!! Not always is "everything in a name' as the person is in reality? How can parents know ? ( The meaning of my name, says nothing about my character!) BUT I have news for you! Bert name fits as his skin, he is indeed as a rock , a shiny and sparkling person for me, therefore I hope he will stay for ever in my life..... I am pretty sure about that, because 'we fit' we understand each other in many (unspoken too) ways.

To be continued Names: Truus and Theo

Jacoba & Adriana: 'names-2'

Jacoba Adriana & Adriana,

The birthnames of my Mom (81) are Jacoba-Adriana,
in short is she's called Co...
And the birthname of my sister (52) is Adriana.

( C) Black-white portraits,by jw-nl)
My mom Co and sister Adriana, both live nearby each other in Leidschendam, wich is very near Voorburg and The Hague. They have both the same kind of interests like: very creatif and therefore "look-a-like". Thy have in comment that they make very well their own/also for others, by theirself sewed and designed clothes. My mother always made our clothes when we were youngh, gosh did I hated that! I wanted 'clotes like everybody else "out of the store". Its reasonable that my mom became very sad after my dad died in december 2003, but she's doing much better now. She started again with sewing clothes and making cards and chains. My sister went further (as my mom) into designing clothes, she followed a study, now she's a professional. Adriana got very recent her 4th (and final) degree in Coupeuse, with that degree she can become a teacher in designing clothes , this study is a very difficult parttime study. She told me once, that she had to design & make proofclothes on scale. (first by drawing after taking the precize body- sizes!) Every week different kinds/styles of clothes. Imagine that she's having a busy family-life too , like a teenager-boy , and her husband is having his own bussines (CD shop in rockstyle in The Hague). But she did it. Anyway both; my mom and sister are very creatif persons.
Of course I looked up the meaning of their both names: A free translation/meaning of Jacoba or Co is;
The cheater, the fooler. (Dutch 'De foppende'). Also was Jacoba van Settesoli, in the same time as Franciscus van Assisi ( from Italy), she followed him and was the first member of the zgn. 3th Orde van Franciscus, also a saint. Jacoba is the female form of Jacob. Than Jacob: out of the bible: Hebr. "ja'aqob", an onsure meaning, but 1 of the 2 sons of Isaak , (Jacob and Esau) in that story the name 'Jacob" means: "took the sole" (Dutch:`hij greep de hiel). Or in other words; Jacob took the 1th birth-rights of his brother Esau. (Dutch:hij verdrong zijn broer, een bedrieger') (Gen. 25). The Greek form of Jacob became " Jakobos' and out of that name came the Latin name" Jacobus", also "Jacomus".

The second name of my mom and my sister is Adriana: Well his name is coming from the male form:" Adrianus". Adriana means "Coming from Adria". I could not find anything more of the name "Adriana" , sorry I would like to find more but couldn't. Perhaps is coming from names like 'Aaltje' , but it goes too far to look that up.

Be continued soon.......
With the name of my "Bert the Sweetest"...

DAD & me our 'names-1',

Above and under: My dad and me in the year 2000
My dad (he died in 2003) and I had our names in comment.
My Dad's birth-name is "Johannus" in short given name: 'Jan',
Jan is a very frequent used male name in Holland, so when your name was 'Jan' they could (and its still like that nowadays) call you: small- or Big Jan, Old- or Youngh Jan....Jan the 1th, 2th. etc.In Short :Jan (from John), Jan comes from: 'Johannus' wich means:"God is gracious."

Well the meaning of my dad's name'Johannus', that's my Dad 'in an out' , because he really lived his intire life as a very strict religious Christian. (too strict in my opinion) My given birthname is the female form of 'Johannus', wich is 'Johanna". With the same meaning as Johannus. About' 'Johanna' is told a story as follows: "Johanna was the name from a woman of Chusas (?), Chusas was a rentmaster of Herodus of Antipas, wich was healed by Jesus Christ". My family called me 'Joke', wich I never liked as a frontname, There were always a lot of (7!!) Joke's in my school-class, so I was always called: Joke 2 or 3 or 4 or more, Not so nice.My Dad, always called me (for him ment as a sweet name): Josje. This name'Josje' means nothing, it's only a sweet nickname from my Dad. (thanks Dad!)

Than my (later) own given name JoAnn, because I gave myself this name while I was travelling. No-one could promounce 'Joke' , than I was called; 'Jokka' (YAK!!!)or something like that. So I told people that my birthname was: 'Johanna' , because I was with English spoken people my name became soon, or changed in : 'JoAnn" Since 1980 is my name :JoAnn The name 'JoAnn' comes from:" Joannes Chrysostomus", He was one of the most important Church fathers from The Far East, born. ca. 354 in Antiochië, he was a munck (and kluizenaar)
